Port Charlotte, FL- William C. "Bill" Nylander age 72, Port Charlotte resident and former Ishpeming Township resident passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
Bill was born November 29, 1935 in Ishpeming to Lawrence T. & Elizabeth (Nicholas) Nylander. Bill graduated from Negaunee High School, class of 1953. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for 32 years, retiring from the Tilden Mine as a warehouse supervisor.
Bill was a former member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and the Wawonowin Country Club; he currently was a member of the Kings Gate Golf Club in Port Charlotte. He was active with the Westwood Booster Club while his children were in high school serving as past president.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joan (Maddern) Nylander of Port Charlotte, FL, 4 children: Alan (Becki) Nylander of Ishpeming, Gary (Diane) Nylander of Hartland, MI, Peggy (Mark) Pontti of Iron Mountain and Linda (Troy) Ogea of Kennesaw, GA, 10 grandchildren: Patrick & Adam Nylander, Carly, Alec and Nikki Nylander, Meredith, Alyssa, & Emma Pontti, Morgan & Phillip Ogea, a sister Edith (Bill) Frank of Philadelphia, PA, a brother Robert (Bonnie) Nylander of Hudson, OH, a sister in law Jeanne Nylander of Negaunee along with nieces & nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James Nylander.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm and on Friday at the Wesley United Methodist Church from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am.
