Republic, MI- William David Mattila, age 69, lifelong Republic resident passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at UP Health System Marquette.

William was born in Marquette, Michigan on April 16, 1954, a son of the late William and Alice (Tuomi) Mattila. Bill graduated fromRepublic-Michigamme High School, Class of 1972.

Bill worked for 30 plus years for Cleveland Cliffs working at the Republic Mine and retiring from the Empire Mine as a shovel operator. He enjoyed coffee clutching at the Corner Café at Koski Korners.

Bill is survived by a brother Alan (Judy) Mattila, aunt and uncle Marcy and Donald Rankinen, along with numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a half sister Rose Lynn Colburn.

Honoring Bill's wishes cremation will take place, a private graveside service will be held at the Republic Township Cemetery.
