Obituary

Ishpeming Twp., William "Kip" Kipling, age 89 of 160 Prospect, Ishpeming, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital. William was born May 31, 1923 in Ishpeming to William & Helga (Wallberg) Nardi. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1941. William went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II entering in February of 1943. He served 20 months overseas in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes (battle of the bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945 with several citations and metals. Kip worked for the Upper Peninsula Power Company as a lineman for 23 years and as a line foreman for another 18 years, retiring in 1986 after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming. Kip enjoyed bowling, throwing horseshoes, woodworking: especially making bird houses. He was always there to help his sons with remodeling projects at their homes, as well as his own. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren playing cards, board games and working on puzzles. He loved animals especially dogs. Kip also liked visiting casinos and playing BINGO. He and Gerri never missed a Sunday supper at the Bonanza. Kip is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Geraldine (Rice) Kipling, whom he married on May 8, 1948, 3 sons: Terry (Katherine) Kipling of Spring Lake, MI, James (Peggy) Kipling and Roger (Bonny) Kipling both of Ishpeming, 6 grandchildren: Heather (Mark) Pease, Eric (Betsy) Kipling, Brian Kipling, Michele (Jon) DeVold, Kara Kipling and Kristin Kipling, 7 great grandchildren: Jaren, Jayce, Katie, Ben, Annie, Maddux and Chas, a sister in law Alice Rice of Ishpeming along with numerous nieces and nephews. Kip was preceded in death by his fathers William Nardi and Tom Kipling, his mother Helga (Wallberg) Kipling and infant son Tommy, 7 months old. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday March 23rd at the Wesley United Methodist Church from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm.
