Ishpeming Twp. – William R. Hill, age 87, of 115 Stoneville Rd. in Ishpeming Twp. passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 at his home.

Bill was born May 5, 1929 in Ishpeming the son of the late Victor and Lydia (Kappajamaki) Hill.  He was raised in Covington and was a graduate of the Trout Creek High School, Class of 1947.  He married the late Alice Pulkas in 1950 and shortly after they moved to Pontiac where Bill had worked as a carpenter.  He and Alice raised 4 children mainly in the Pontiac area prior to returning to the Upper Peninsula in 1974 when they moved to Ishpeming.  Bill was employed locally by the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. as a Security Guard first at the Tilden Mine and then the Republic Mine until his retirement.

Bill enjoyed his time spent at his camp in Sidnaw, along with his daily trips to the McDonalds in Ishpeming for coffee.  He was an avid Detroit Sports Fan, always rooting for the Tigers and Lions.  Bill loved his vehicles, especially his trucks which he would purchase every two years.  He was a lifetime member of the Ishpeming Elks.

Survivors include 4 children – Clare Ann Schroeder of White Lake, John V. Hill of Sidnaw, Tina M. (Tony) Snodgrass of Highland, and Bill A. (Judy) Hill of Ishpeming; 2 sisters – Elsie Heer of Hart, MI and Minerva Johnson of Pensacola, FL, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 2009, parents, 2 sisters – Aileen Huhtala and Alma Humphries and 2 brothers – Edwin and Arvid Hill, and a son-in-law Don Schroeder.

The Family will greet relatives and friends from 4 until 6pm on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.  A memorial service will follow at Bjork & Zhulkie at 6:00pm with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate.  Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.  A luncheon will follow the services at the River Rock Banquet Center in Ishpeming.
