Republic – William "Willie" Heikkila, age 85 lifelong Republic resident passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at the UP Health System Marquette.

William was born June 18, 1932 in Ishpeming the son of the late John and Tyyne (Hakala) Heikkila. He graduated from Republic High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Willie worked in the logging business for many years with his brother Reino for Heikkila Brothers Logging. He enjoyed hunting and tinkering with cars. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Republic.

Survivors include a brother Alvar (Marina) Heikkila of Ishpeming, and a nephew John (Heidi) Heikkila of Ishpeming. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: George and Reino Heikkila and a sister Elvi Heikkila.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am-12:00 noon on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic where a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Kevin Kaiser officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. Interment will take place at the Republic Twp Cemetery.
