Ishpeming Twp-William C. "Andy" Anderson, age 79, 430 Peterson Ave., Ishpeming passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Mather Nursing Center, where he had been a patient for the past five days. Bill has been ill for several years with COPD.
Bill was born on July 13, 1927 in Ishpeming the son of William A. and Olive (Pascoe) Anderson. Bill grew up in Salisbury Location, attended Salisbury School and graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1945.
After graduation Bill entered the U.S. Navy during World War II and also served during the Korean War.
Bill was in the first group of civilians hired at the former K.I. Sawyer AFB, working in accounting and moving to the Base Engineers department.
Bill and his wife, Carmen, were married on July 29, 1961, and moved to Berkley, MI in May of 1963, where Bill worked for the Veterans Administration in the Loan Guaranty Dept. He retired from the Veterans Administration in September of 1986 after 34 years working for the Federal Government. In 1995, they returned to the Ishpeming area.
Bill liked baseball, and football, especially the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and reading. He coached his son's Little League teams also.
Bill was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church. He was a member of the VFW Post 4573, Ishpeming and American Legion Post 0374, Berkley, MI.
He is survived by his wife: Carmen, their son: Mark (Kjersti) and twin grandsons Jacob and Zachary from Lewiston, MN., Brother: Donald Anderson of Ishpeming, special brother-in-law: Charles Kent of Ishpeming, Nieces: Tammy McCarthy of Ishpeming, Corey Pepin of Ishpeming, Cindy Sirtola of Negaunee, Colleen Lavoie of Ridgecrest CA, Nephews: Larry Kent of Munising, and James Kent of Ishpeming.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carol Kent.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday June 7, 2007 at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Terri Branstrom to officiate.
Friends may call the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00pm until the time of service at 6:00pm.
Memorials may be made to the Salisbury United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
