Republic – Wilfred P. Mattson, age 78, of Republic, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at The D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans of natural causes.

Wilfred was born in Republic, Michigan on September 20, 1942, a son of the late Frederick (Jiggs) and Laura (Lyyski) Mattson. He enlisted in the Army in 1964 and served for 3 years. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs for many years.  He received his GED through Republic Michigamme High School. He was united in marriage to Anne Marie Ringuette on October 8, 1966. In his free time he enjoyed doing carpentry, woodworking, mechanic, and working in the woods with his father getting pulp. He also enjoyed his guitar and country music.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Anne Marie of Republic; children Christine (Curtis) Koski of Green Bay, WI, Frederick (Erica) Mattson of Republic, and Jeffry (Joey) Mattson of Lake Mills, WI; grandchildren Laura, Nickolas, Molly, Daniel, Josiah, Liberty, Hava, Samuel, Zachary, and Kara; great-grandchild Sebastian; brother Clifford (Karen) Mattson; sisters Aurelia Matheny and Luana Wixtrom.

He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Leonard and Bernie, sister Bernice Enderle.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
