Obituary
Ishpeming- Waino John Kari, age 89, of 400 Kari Lane, passed away at 8:20 AM on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at his home in the company of loved ones and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Waino was born in McFarland on January 6, 1920, the son of the late Waino and Amanda (Linna) Kari. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and was the cook for the Meals on Wheels in Florida. Waino was a member of the Carpenters Union #958 in Marquette. Waino volunteered at the thrift shop while living in Florida where he enjoyed performing repairs on electronic & small appliances. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing in his spare time. Waino was the president of the men's group-Lutheran Men in Missions at his church Lamb of God.
Waino is survived by his wife of 68 years, G. Mae (Kompsi) Kari, children: Donna (James) Nault of Owosso, Sheran (Robert) Keskey of Owosso, Diane Poirier of Ishpeming, David (Sharleen) Kari of Ishpeming, Roger (Nancy) Kari of Sana Anna, CA, 14 Grandchildren, Kellee (Alan) Casillas, Jeffrey (Connie) Nault, Leslie Nault, Kari Herron, Kraig Keskey, Kristen (Thomas) Mize, Robyn (Paul) Altobello, Debbee (Joe) Horton, Rodney (Kristine) Poirier, Lisa (Fred) Sitkins, David (Rehana) Kari, Nathan (Kerry) Kari, Benjamin Kari, Sandi Floyd, Krystal (John) Pak, 31 Great Grandchildren, 2 expected great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law Miriam Nicholls and Helen Kari both of Ishpeming.
Waino was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Andrew and Toivo Kari, a son Rodney Kari, son-in-law Robert Poirier, and 2 grandsons Brent Herron and David Nault.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday April 18, 2009 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri O. Maki and Rev. Alan Casillas officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call the Bethel Lutheran Church on April 18, 2009 from 10:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM.
