Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Marie (Oja) Prusi, age 77, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, due to a stroke.  Ginny had been on a journey with Dementia and was a resident at Eastwood Nursing Home.

Ginny was born on August 30, 1946 to William and Inga Oja and grew up in Humboldt Township.  She met Charles Prusi and they married at her parents home in Humboldt on December 3, 1966.  They lived in the Milwaukee area for a few years before moving to Black River where they raised their family.

Ginny's legacy is the 7 children (6 boys and 1 girl) she mothered with a seemingly endless supply of patience, empathy, humor as well as exasperation, frustration, forgiveness, grace and unconditional love.

Ginny enrolled at NMU for Nursing while still raising her children.  She graduated with an Associates in Science as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Ishpeming and then with Pathways Adult Disabled Group Home.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, In-Laws John William (Bill) and Jennie Prusi, brother Jerry and his wife Margaret, Richard and his wife Charlotte, sister Judy Lahetela, brother-in-law Harry Williams and nephew James Williams.

She was also preceded in death by infant grandsons Samuel and Matthew Prusi.

Ginny is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles Prusi, sons: Joshua (Lisa) Duluth, MN, Jonah Minneapolis, MN, Jeremiah Marquette, MI, Joseph Ishpeming, MI, James (Bethany) Negaunee,MI and Jacob (Phoebe) Ishpeming,MI and her beloved daughter Abigail (Ian) MacFarlane St. Paul, MN.

Ginny is further survived by 12 grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Chase (Bailey), Nathaniel, Naomi, Adam, Logan, Brody, Cole, Abby (Zane), Lilly, Wyatt, Kyla, Lian and Amelia.  Ginny is also survived by siblings Sarah Williams, Ken and Theresa Oja, as well as many loved nieces and nephews and a host of Brothers and Sisters in faith.

The funeral will be held at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 1044 Cty Rd 492, in Negaunee, MI on Monday, May 13, 2024 with Visitation starting at 11:00 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Humboldt Twp. Cemetery following the lunch.
