Ishpeming – Virginia S. "Ginny Sue" Koivula, age 67, longtime Ishpeming Township resident passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident for the past month.
Virginia was born in Ishpeming on May 8, 1952, daughter of the late Dorothy Mae (Bond) and John Floyd Palmer. "Ginny Sue" grew up in Ishpeming and received her high school diploma through the Community Schools Program. She had worked as a dietary aide at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp. for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting, camping, and her Monday trips to the casino.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years Rodney Koivula of Ishpeming; two sons - Bryn (Linda Kennedy) Koivula and Tom (Brenda Currie) Koivula both of Ishpeming; granddaughter Brihanna Koivula: four sisters - Marilyn (Ken) Argall, Marjorie Sanchez-Palmer, Beverly Nelson, Kathleen West and a brother David (Carol) Palmer all of Ishpeming; two sisters-in-law – Helen (Ernest) Johnson and Susan Koivula both of Marquette; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Douglas Palmer.
A Celebration of Virginia's Life will be held at the Ishpeming VFW on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM.
