Obituary
Ishpeming – Violet M. Kangas, age 93, formerly of 648 Elliott Ave. in Ishpeming passed away on Tuesday October 11, 2011 at the Superior Health Haven in Munising where she had been a resident for the past few months.
Violet was born July 24, 1918 in Champion, MI the daughter of the late Stephen and Emma (Mercier) Gilker. She was a graduate of the Champion High School, Class of 1935. She married the late Theodore Kangas on Oct. 15, 1953, and together they raised a son Stephen. Violet had been an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming along with the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Survivors include a son Stephen Kangas of Huntington Beach, CA, along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Kangas on July 24, 2006, 2 brothers - Clarence and Wilber Gilker, 2 half-sisters – Laura Arsenault and Yvonne Cram.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00AM on Wednesday October 19, 2011 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Fr. James Challancin to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends for an hour prior to the Mass. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
