Violet "Vi" Mae Argall
Ishpeming- Violet "Vi" Mae Argall, age 88, formally of 701 W. Empire St., died on Sunday July 1, 2007 at Mather Nursing Center where she had resided since this past December.
Vi was born May 22, 1919 and lived in Palmer, she was the daughter of the late William and Henrietta (Pascoe) Polkinghorne. Vi attended Kirkpatrick High School and Palmer Methodist Church. On March 28, 1942 she married Russell "Brud" Argall, and they moved to Ishpeming in 1952. Vi was employed at E.A. Johnson Grocery Store, Walgreen Drug Store, and Merricks. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Ishpeming and the New York Club. She participated in a bowling league for many years, enjoyed sports especially the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Pistons, and the Ishpeming Hematites. She loved to knit and crochet, and spent much time at her camp on the Hoist Basin from 1954-1996.
Besides her parents, Vi was preceded in death by her husband, "Brud", on November 3, 1977, and a half-brother Robert L. York.
She is survived by her son, Russell W. Argall of Green Bay, WI, one-granddaughter, Rusty Lynn Argall of Friday Harbor, WA, half-brothers, Charles (Alice) York and William (Ruth) York both of Marquette, brother-in-law Joe Argall of Ishpeming, sisters-in-law Catherine Lietz of Negaunee, and Suzanne (Paul) Heilala of Ishpeming, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins including members of the Andrew G. Wickman family of Iron Mountain, and cousin Laurabelle Mahoski of Ishpeming.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 5, 2007 at 7:00pm at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home with Vi's nephew, Pastor Hank Steede officiating. Burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews: Joseph Argall Jr., David Argall, Theodore Heilala, Daniel York, Bobby York, Tommy Lee St. Aubin, Darryll St. Aubin, and Kenneth St. Aubin.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday from 5:00pm until the time of service at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home.
