Ishpeming – Remembering most loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother Viola E. Linna (Lovingly Known as: Aiti) age: 94.
Viola passed away peacefully March 6, 2016 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, Ishpeming, Michigan.
Viola was born June 27, 1921, in Neguanee, Michigan to the late Amanda (Hokala) & Charles Kangas. She graduated in 1939 from Neguanee High School. She then married Harold Linna. Harold & Viola had two children, Ann L. Sarna (Linna) born May 15, 1943 & the late Edward J. Linna born July 24, 1945.
Harold & Viola Linna owned & operated Linna's Drugstore which was located on Second Street downtown Ishpeming. Viola closed the store during the 1970s after the loss of her husband Harold.
Viola was a woman who enjoyed socializing with her friends , playing bingo, watching football (was an avid Lion's fan) & an active member at Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming.
Viola loved to cook pasties & made delicious Krupsoa! Every summer she picked blueberries and made pies, cakes, cookies, muffins for all of her friends & family. She always housed a parakeet which she inevitably taught to speak Finnish! Viola loved her family most of all. She would spend her summers with her sister & grandchildren at Dead River Basin, Negaunee. There she cooked, played board games, paper dolls, fished & enjoyed a hot sauna! Viola always loved the great outdoors and participated in a lot of winter/summer sports during her younger years.
Perhaps the most noteworthy characteristic Vi possessed was her dedication & loyalty to her work. She always worked side-by-side with her husband Harold at Linna's Drugstore…she performed all duties at the drugstore from inventory to cleaning. Her family often wondered if Vi ever slept! After Harold's death, Viola continued her faithful service to Johnson's Drugstore located in downtown Ishpeming. There she worked until she was 90 years old. Her zeal for life & work was evident in all that she did.
Viola is survived by her daughter Ann (Robert) Sarna of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, her daughter-in-law, Mary Linna of Macomb, Michigan. Viola had 6 grandchildren, Rhonda Halron, Renee Hilliard, Stephanie Wood, Eric Linna , Aaron Sarna & Kirk Linna. (oldest to youngest). Viola also had 5 great grandchildren (oldest to youngest) Lindsy Wood, Alex Halron, Ian Wood, Sophia Sarna & Olivia Sarna.
