Obituary
Ishpeming- Viola Inez Doney, age 98, formerly of 707 Vine St. Ishpeming. passed away Sunday morning, November 30th, 2008 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had resided since May of 2005.
Viola was born in Austin Location on Low Street, on May 5, 1910, the daughter of the late John and Judith (Olive) Hoiem, the oldest of 7 children. She attended the Gwinn area schools before moving to Ishpeming at the age of 17. She spent a short time working at H.W. Gossard Co. Viola married Lloyd Doney on August 29, 1930.
Viola was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir for over 35 years. She was a member of the Martha Ruth Circle and CAM. Viola was very devoted and involved in her church. She enjoyed making pasties at Wesley and was an expert crimper. Family was very important to Viola and she didn't miss any of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events and school programs. Viola enjoyed concerts, parades and family gatherings.
Viola is survived by her son: Duane (Ruth) Doney of Ishpeming, a brother: Melvin (Carrie) Hoiem of Palmer, 4 grandchildren: Daniel (Kathy Jo) Doney, Judy (Fred) Saari, Elizabeth (Robbie) Powelson, Eric (Tamara) Doney, 6 great grandchildren: Jason (Jaime) Doney, Danielle (Brian) Anderson, Rebecca and Victoria Powelson, and Brittany and Libbie Jo Doney, a great-great granddaughter: Kaylin Doney, sisters-in-law Shirley and Corinne Hoiem, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viola is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lloyd Doney, a sister: Irene Anderson, and 4 brothers: Arnold, Homer, Emmitt and Norman Hoiem.
Funeral Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church at 11:00AM on Tuesday, December 2nd, with Pastor Scott Lindenberg officiating. Viola's family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of services. A luncheon will be held following the service. Interment will be at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church at 801 Hemlock St. Ishpeming, MI 49849.
