Obituary

Ishpeming – Vincent James "Jim" Tasson, age 73, of 1490 Hickory St., Ishpeming passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Jim was born on October 12, 1940 in Ishpeming to James B. & Aili Senora (Oysti) Tasson.  He married Fay Sondra (Swahn) on March 3, 1962 and together they raised 7 children. The love of his life, Fay, preceded him in death on March 8, 2012, and he deeply missed her companionship.  He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1958-1960.

Jim had an amazing love for life, and radiated joy and happiness to those around him.  His family and friends enjoyed listening to countless stories from his past.  He liked to poke innocent fun at those he loved the most.  He was a very hard working man, owning and operating Jim's 41 Shell/Jim's Union 76 on U.S. 41 in Ishpeming.  As his Multiple Sclerosis progressed, he continued the business as Jim's Hubcap and Tire Shop, despite his disability.  Jim truly cherished working daily with his father and sons for many of those years.

Jim had an amazing love for baseball.  He was an excellent left-handed pitcher known for breaking fingers on those who caught for him.  He coached Little League and Senior League baseball for many years, including leading his son's team to the State Finals.

He was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and formerly the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church.  He was proud to have completed the Emmaus Walk.  He changed many lives by openly sharing his strong faith in the Lord.

He was proud to be a Hematite and was especially thrilled with the football team's recent successes.  Jim was an excellent husband, father, and a sensational role model.  He lived life with admirable strength and courage.

Survivors include his seven children: Steven (Sheri) Tasson of Cooper City, FL, Kevin Tasson of Ishpeming, Amy Tasson of Neenah, WI, Craig (Patty) Tasson of Ishpeming, Jana (Steve) Niemi of Appleton, WI, Dara (Gene) Flink of DePere, WI, and Jason (special friend Lacey) Tasson of Marquette, Grandchildren: Mark Tasson, Mary (Alex) Pardo, and Kirk (Emily) Tasson, Bryce Paulsen, Sondra Fay Vickstrom, Melissa (Dan) Pellinen, Samantha Gardner, Chanler and Chase Niemi, Christian and Giovanna Flink, a great grandchild Tayla Keller, a sister Jean (Jeffrey) LePage of Ishpeming, a brother Alan (Carolyn) Tasson of Sun City West, AZ, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fay, a grandson Chet, and a sister and brother in law Ann and Celester Santee.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 3:00-6:00pm on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming.  Funeral services will follow at 6:00pm on Thursday at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate.  A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.

Pallbearers will be Jim's grandsons.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Huffman, U.P. Home Health, Private Duty & Hospice, and all of those who have loyally served and helped our dad throughout the years.
