National Mine- Vieno "Vi" M. Pietila, age 90 longtime National Mine resident, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 a the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where she resided since December 2004.

Vieno was born June 17, 1918 in Ishpeming to John & Eliina (Pertula) Salo. She is survived by 2 children: Sandra Laitinen of Negaunee and Daryl Pietila of National Mine, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and step grandchildren. Vieno was preceded in death by her husband Ernest in 1996, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

A private memorial service will be held at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Thursday October 30, 2008 with Rev. Virginia Eggert officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Memorial considerations may be directed to the Eastwood Nursing Center-Activities Fund in memory of Vieno.

Vieno's family would like to thank the staff at the Eastwood Nursing Center for the wonderful care given to Vi during the past 4 years.
