Ishpeming – Verna L. Smith, age 57 of 456 Washington St., Ishpeming passed away on Monday April 19, 2010 at her home in Ishpeming. She had been in ill health for the past several years.


Verna was born June 14, 1952 in Wakefield, the daughter of the late Vernon J. and Shirley M. (Ray) Hill. She was a graduate of the Bergland High School. She married Henry J. Smith on April 7, 1973. They moved to Wyoming for a short period and in 1975 returned to the Upper Peninsula, residing in Ishpeming since that time. Verna enjoyed knitting, and more recently learned to use the internet, and loved to play games on the Pogo site.


Verna is survived by her husband Henry J. Smith of Ishpeming, a son Richard J. Smith of Negaunee, sisters – Carol (Richard) Bunce and Ramona Hill both of Ishpeming, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister.


Funeral services are scheduled for 5:00pm on Friday April 23, 2010 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friend from 4:00pm until the time of services on Friday.
