Ishpeming- Trudy C. Johnson, age 63 of 105 Co. Rd. GMA Ishpeming, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Trudy was born February 26, 1947 in Ishpeming to Nellie (Beauchamp) and the late Donald Maddock. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1965. Trudy married Peter O. Johnson August 7, 1967.
Trudy was a stay at home mom while her children were in school and did in home child care during that time. When the youngest son was in high school he said it would be oaky if she worked away from home. Trudy worked at the Ishpeming Community Federal Credit Union for eleven years retiring in 2001 as head of Member Services.
Trudy was a life long member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the choir for 40 plus years, taught Sunday school, served on the church council acted as council president and a member of Alpha Omega Circle. She also was a member of the Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis.
Trudy traveled throughout 48 of the 50 States with her husband, three kids, and at times a niece and nephew camping in a pop-up camper. One of her most favorite stops was Myrtle Beach, SC. Also traveled to England, Scotland and Norway.
Trudy and her husband have followed NMU Hockey for many years. A high point of course was when the Cats won the NCAA Division I Hockey Championship at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, MN. She and her husband traveled with the fan bus to that event. They made numerous trips to the Joe Lewis Arena when ever the Cats made it to the CCHA Finals even taking two granddaughters in 2010 to experience the hockey playoff excitement.
Trudy enjoyed quilting, caring for house plants, collecting Dreamsicles and Avon Christmas Plates, but especially providing day care for her grandchildren when their parents were at work.
Her favorite time of year was by far Christmas when she would begin decorating as early as Thanksgiving Day. A Christmas tree in the living room, one in the kitchen and three little Alpine trees in the back entry room. Along with all the trees were oodles of signs of Christmas hanging on the walls or sitting on a flat surface.
Since Trudy was first diagnosed with cancer in 1998 she, her husband and family became involved with the America Cancer Society's, RELAY FOR LIFE. For the past eight years Trudy and her husband served as co-chairs of logistics for the RELAY FOR LIFE held at Al Quaal in Ishpeming. You might say she and her husband became RELAY junkies, going to RELAYS in Houghton, Sault Ste Marie, Menominee, NMU and Waukesha, WI.
Trudy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all. Surviving is her husband Peter O. Johnson, daughter Lisa (Mark) Junak of Ishpeming, sons: Erik (Lisa) Johnson of Marquette and Chad (Sarah) Johnson of Oak Creek, WI, mother Nellie Maddock of Ishpeming, sister Donnette (Robert) Paige of Sparta, MI, brother Ronald (Kay) Maddock of Ishpeming, brother in law Norman (Mary) Johnson of Ishpeming, granddaughters MaKayla Junak, Adriana Johnson, Kylie Johnson, grandsons: Isaac Johnson and Sawyer Johnson, nephews: Michael Maddock, Ronald (Michelle) LaForest and Robbie (Liz) Powelson, nieces: Lindsay Maddock, Amanda (Curtis) Hudson, Kim (Chris) Hawkins and Tracey (Bruce) Tippett. Trudy was preceded in death by her father Donald Maddock.
A memorial service will be held 6:00PM Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Kenneth Lahners officiating.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday from 3:00pm until the time of service at 6:00PM.
