Ishpeming – Tommy Jo Stankorb, Sr., age 70, of 4461 U.S. Highway 41 West, Ishpeming passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at U P Health System Marquette.

Tommy Jo was born February 22, 1946 in Negaunee, MI the son of the late Ralph D. and Margaret E. (Haslitt) Stankorb. Tommy grew up in National Mine and then served in the United State Army. He moved to Detroit following his service time and resided their until 1980 when he moved back to Ishpeming. Tommy had worked as a truck driver in the construction business both in Detroit and in the local area.

Tommy loved to be around people, especially when it involved storytelling. He enjoyed time spent at camp, fishing and playing cards. Tommy was a member of the Ishpeming VFW, Post 4573.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Stankorb of Ishpeming whom he married on April 11, 1970. 5 children – Delbert Stankorb of Hebron, OH, Tommy Joe Stankorb Jr., and Willy Stankorb both of Ishpeming along with Tina and Steven Narducci of Watertown, NY, 2 brothers – Jerry (Iris) Stankorb of Longview, TX and Larry Nault of National Mine, 4 sisters – Jacalyn Holmgren of Negaunee, Mary Jo Ketola of Billings, MT, Carol (Richard) Steede of Champion and Christine Walline of Skandia, 8 grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers – Paul E. Nault Jr. and Charles Stankorb and sisters – Darlene Oja, Shirley Turcola, Connie Smith.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 12:00noon on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral where a memorial service will follow at 12:00noon with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. A luncheon will follow at the Ishpeming VFW
