Champion, MI- Timothy Kurt Simula, age 84, Champion resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at his home while in the loving care of his family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Timothy was born in Highland Park, MI on May 2, 1940, a son of the late Ethel Marie (Glancy) and Carl Stephen Simula. Tim graduated from Baraga High School in 1958 and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Michigan University, marrying his high school sweetheart Arlene on September 2, 1961.
He was an educator for most of his career, teaching and coaching at Sault Ste. Marie High School and Champion High School. He also worked as a guidance counselor. Tim finished his career teaching wood shop at Champion Middle School and retired in 1991. He also owned and operated Timber Joy Building Supply in Humboldt from 1988-1998.
Tim was a member of Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church and The Gideons International and a founding member of Lutheran Bible Fellowship. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, creative woodworking, gardening, and enjoying the lively company of his youngest descendents. One monument to Tim's skills as a craftsman is the Horseshoe Hilton, a log cabin he built nearly single-handedly in the woods on Horseshoe Lake south of Champion in the 1980s, a camp that is still utilized and enjoyed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Tim is survived by his wife Arlene (Tauriainen) Simula; five children, Michael (Cindy) Simula of Champion, Sheri (Steve) Tasson of Cooper City, FL, David (Jill) Simula of El Dorado Hills, CA, Kurt (Shelley) Simula of Belleview, FL and Jennifer (Jordan) Yeatts of Traverse City, MI; a sister, Suzanne Davison of Highland, MI; and a brother-in-law, Joe Smith of Marion, IN; along with 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom Simula; sisters, Sharon Smith and Janice Simula; an infant son, Mark; and an infant grandson, Chet.
Tim's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee where his funeral service will be held at noon with Pastor Dale Niskanen officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Interment will take place at the Alston Cemetery.

Tim's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
