Republic- Thomas Edward Stankus, age 77, Republic resident passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at the home he shared with his beloved companion, Anne Bengry.  He was under the care of UP Home Health and Hospice.

Thomas was born in Harvey, IL on September 15, 1943, a son of the late Stanley and Helen (Butkus) Stankus.  He graduated Thornton Township High School, in Harvey, IL.  He served his country in the U.S. Army.

Tom was married to the late Susan, and he and Susan "Suzie" left Illinois to move to the U.P.  They loved the area and made it their home.  Tom was retired from U.S. Steel, and he became involved in the people and town of Republic.  He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, severing on the church council and served as a trustee for Republic Township.

Tom leaves behind his sister Virginia, and his brothers Don and Mickey.  He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  He loved the many friends and experiences he shared with them while living in God's Country.

Honoring Tom's wishes, cremation will take place and a private graveside service will be held in the Republic Township Cemetery.
