Obituary
Marquette – Theresa L. Mestnik, age 92, former Marquette resident passed away at 2:20am on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where she had resided for the past 2 years.
Theresa was born July 1, 1923 in Bessemer, MI the daughter of the late Peter L and Elizabeth R. (Michalotti) Mattaini. Theresa grew up in Bessemer and was a graduate of the A.D. Johnson High School, Class of 1940. Theresa went on to attend St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN where she received her bachelor of science degree in 1944 and went on to teach English and History a various high schools, including in Mountain Iron, Foley and Browns Valley, MN and Houghton and Ironwood, MI, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of teaching.
Theresa was a member of the St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. She was an avid reader, interested in a variety including non-fiction to mystery novels. Theresa enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games and her I-pad. She enjoyed visiting all her precious friends and staff members at the Eastwood Nursing Center.
Survivors include a daughter Judy (Jim) Gray of Ishpeming, a sister Gloria (Gary) Bushschacher of Elysian, MN, grandchildren – Stacy (Bryan Bertucci) Gray, Tonya Gray, Dr Rebecca (Adam) Hermann, Sarah (Steve) Noasconi, Stephanie Gray, Jimmy (Katie) Gray, Nick Mestnik & Allie Mestnik, great grandchildren – Jayden, Chloe, Madeline, Aalayah, Taylin, Kyara & Katelyn and another great granddaughter soon expected, along with many nieces and nephews. Theresa was preceded in death by her husband Daniel in 2012, a son Dr. Pete Mestnik in 2007 and a sister Norma Obradavich.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 – 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. A Liturgy of the Word service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber to officiate. All are invited to the Country Grill following the services for a time of fellowship and a light luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Eastwood Nursing Centers, Activities Dept. in Theresa's memory
