Ishpeming – Terry Thompson, age 83, of 1110 9

St., Ishpeming passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at his home in Ishpeming. Terry had been under the loving care of his family and the U P Home Health and Hospice at the time of his death.
Terry was born in Hokuchin, Korea (now North Korea) to the late Forrest "Tony" and Dorothy (Mandley) Thompson. His family soon returned to Ishpeming and Terry attended the Ishpeming Schools, where he was active in many school activities during his high school years. Those included mixed ensemble and chorus, Varsity Track, Baseball and most notably Basketball as Terry was a member of the 1950 State Championship Team and had served as Captain, was selected to All Conference, All UP, All State and All American Teams. Terry graduated in 1952 as Class President, Hi-Y President, and served on the Student Council, Allied Youth, Speech Club, Boys State to name a few. Following graduation he attended Ball State and MTU where he had played basketball.
Terry was a numbers man and those included working 44 different paying jobs, which included his two major jobs first at Lake Shore Inc. mainly in the accounting dept. and at CUPPAD as a business counselor which he was most proud of. Served in many organizations including but not limited to the Pioneer Kiwanis, Jaycees, Small Business Development Centers and was named Counselor of the Year in Michigan, Coral Club, Allegro and New Direction where he was master of ceremonies. Lived in 29 different locations and played basketball in 58 different Upper Peninsula gyms. Terry was inducted to the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
Terry loved the art of fly fishing and taught many friends and family members how to tie flies and cast a fly rod. He also enjoyed playing softball and hunting at camp "Gut-Shot", and all his fishing buddies at "Fish Camp" in Skanee.
Survivors include his wife Amarylee Thompson whom he married on April 17, 1954, 6 children – Teri (Ken) Arseneau of Ishpeming, Denise (Maxine) Thompson of San Diego, CA, Karen (Jerome) Foster of Ishpeming, Kathy (Mike) Tassone of Suamico, WI, Scott (Ronne) Thompson of Crystal Bay, NV and Mark (Lynn) Thompson of Homer Glen, IL, a brother Bruce (Marjorie) Thompson of Charleston, SC, 12 grandchildren – Matt, Jenny, Bobbi Jo, Chris, Jaci, Jake, Kathy, Becca, Jason, Jeff, Taylor and Hunter, along with 19 great grandchildren.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00pm – 4:00pm on Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming. A memorial service will follow at 4:00pm on Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. JJ Mannschreck to officiate. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.

Special thanks to Dr. Lloyd Hooper and his nurse Audrey Duer, Helena and Allison from Bell Pulmonary Rehab and the angels of UP Home Health and Hospice (Carol, Kirsten, Julie and Kathy). Words cannot express our appreciation for your dedication and devotion to Dad.
