Clarksburg – Terrence G. "Terry" Currie, age 75, of 555 Co. Rd. CKJ, Champion passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015 at UP Health System – Marquette where he had been a patient since Saturday. Terry had been in ill health for the past 3 weeks.
Terry was born January 24, 1940 at home in Clarksburg Location the son of the late Gene E. and A. Viola (Keily) Currie. Terry was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the Ishpeming High School. He has been married to the former Sharon M. Rolstone for the past 48 years and together they raised 3 children.
Terry began his working career with the Jones and Laughlin Mining Co. at the Champion Mine and transferred to the Tracy Mine when the Champion Mine closed. He went on to work as a equipment operator for Hamel Construction for many years followed by driving truck for the Jilbert's Dairy. Terry was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion at the Lilian Larson American Legion Post #114 in Greenwood location and was active with the honor team which went to various events and activities raising the American Flag. Terry was a former member of the AmVets. He had been active with the Champion Lions Club especially when it came to the Champion Horse Pulling. Terry enjoyed fishing along with the camaraderie of Deer Season in the U.P. He could also be convinced to take a trip to the area casino's. In his younger years he enjoyed baseball and softball, playing for the Double V bar for many years.
Survivors include his wife Sharon Currie of Clarksburg, a son Terry Currie of Clarksburg; 2 daughters Brenda Currie and Chandra (Shawn) Bonovich both of Ishpeming; two sisters – Darlene (Dennis) Logan of Bellingham, WA and Rogie (Otto) Luoma of Clarksburg; brother Dan (Teresa) Currie of Ishpeming; grandchildren – Emma, Scott, Jordan, Brooke and Brihanna; 3 great grandchildren – Mason Caiden and Macie; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother Dale Currie; a granddaughter Samantha Bonovich and a niece Becky Bresette.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Friday, August 7, 2015 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming, followed by a Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 1:00pm with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. A luncheon will follow the services at the Lillian – Larson American Legion Post #114 in Greenwood Location.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sterling, Keith Schultz, Gary O'Brien, Otto Luoma, Tom Houseman and Russell Warner.
