Negaunee, MI - Theodore "Ted" M. Kero, age 89, of 130 Mattson Road, Negaunee, passed away at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming on May 24, 2022.

Ted was born in 1932 in Palmer, Michigan to the late Matt and Jennie (Miller) Kero.  He graduated from Negaunee High School and Michigan Technological University. Between that time, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War period. He worked as an engineer for Caterpillar, Lakeshore and was Deputy Base Engineer at KI Sawyer Air Force Base until his retirement.  He built his own home in Negaunee Township and was founding fire chief of the Negaunee Township Fire Department.  Ted enjoyed traveling and everything about the Finnish Yooper lifestyle including coffee, pie, sauna, making wood, being outdoors in every season and visiting with friends.  He treasured his family and, above all, his Faith.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Kero of Negaunee, whom he married June 23, 1956, as well as his children David (Liz) Kero of Negaunee, Julie (Brian) Hintsala of Negaunee, Valerie (Bob) Hintsala of Proctor, MN, Heidi (Tom) Johnson of Marquette and Peter (Miriam) Kero of Hibbing, MN; and his 13 grandchildren, their spouses and children; along with numerous nieces and nephews and a loving host of Brothers and Sisters in Faith.

The Family will greet relatives and friends at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee from 11:00am until the time of services at Noon on Friday May 27, 2022 with Don Johnson officiating. Interment will take place at the Negaunee City Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
