Ishpeming – Tauno Isaac Koski, age 89, of 175 Prospect St. Ishpeming, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Bell Hospital.
Tauno was born April 5, 1918 to the late Jacob V. and Matilda (Makki) Koski in Negaunee. He was a graduate of Negaunee High School, class of 1937. Tauno worked for Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., at the Tilden, Empire and Mather B Mines and retired as a general foreman after 30 years. He is a veteran of the Army and served his country during World War II.
Tauno was a life long area resident and member of the Bethel Lutheran Church He enjoyed playing the accordion, working in his garage, and dancing. He also liked to watch Finland Calling. Tauno was involved with the Ishpeming Golden Kiwanis Club and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs.
Survivors include four children: Sharon (Alvin) Etelamaki of Stephenson, MI, Bonnie (Donald) Powrozek of Cedar River, MI, Janice Koski of Ishpeming, and David (Barb) Koski of Negaunee, daughter-in-law: Shirley Koski of Negaunee, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, a brother: Waino (Ines) Koski of Las Vegas and several nieces and nephews.
Tauno is preceded in death by his wife Helen Koski, a son: Dennis Koski, 5 brothers: John, William, Toivo, Arne, and Raymond, 4 sisters: Tillie Mannila, Ida Walding, Ina Wiig, and Sylvia Antilla.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 12:00noon until 2:00pm on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where services will
be held at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall at the Bethel Lutheran Church.
