Ishpeming – Sylvia E. Pantti, age 93, formerly of 111 Bluff St. Ishpeming and prior resident of 1080 N. Westwood Dr. passed away on Thursday August 21, 2008 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided for the past 2 months.


Sylvia was born March 28, 1915 in Spurr Twp. the daughter of the late Oscar and Ida (Autio) Wiljanen. She was a graduate of the Michigamme High School, Class of 1932. Sylvia was a homemaker and a lifelong area resident. Sylvia was member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Ladies of Kaleva, and a former member of the Dorcas Circle.


Survivors include a daughter-in-law – Linda (Don) Asmund of Humboldt Twp., 3 grandchildren – Paula Pantti of Marquette, Cheryl (Barry) James of Marquette, and Laurel (Paul) Raihala of Negaunee, a great grandson – Joseph Sleeman of Texas, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law – Helmi Wiljanen, Dorraine & Edwin Pantti, and Mary Pantti all of Ishpeming, cousins - Paavo & Helena Pelkonen of Wadsworth, IL, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Pantti in 1974, a son Robert Pantti in 1999, and 4 brothers – Walter, Arthur, Emil and Arne Wiljanen.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Sunday August 24, 2008 at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
