Obituary
Michigamme- Sylvia Lillian Cevigney, 75, of Main St. Michigamme passed away on, Monday, February 28th, 2011 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility while under the loving care of her family and UP Home Health & Hospice.
Sylvia was born in Spurr Twp, Michigan on March 21, 1935, a daughter of the late Leah (Smith) Axelson and Walter Wiljanen. Sylvia graduated from Michigamme High School, class of 1953 and married Peter Louis Cevigney on August 22, 1953.
She and her family owned and operated the Michigamme General Store. She served on the Michigamme Township Board and was a member of the Michigamme Township Auxiliary. Sylvia sold Avon and had a huge Garfield collection. She and her friends Jane Adams and Fern Rautio enjoyed playing BINGO 7 nights of the week.
Sylvia is survived by three daughters, Towanda (Paul) Anderson, of Ft. Myers, FL; Paula (Larry) Roncaglione of Michigamme, Connie (Michael) Walt, of Ishpeming,
a son, Louis (Brenda) Cevigney, of Michigamme, She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Towanda Smith, Mark Anderson, Michael (Tina) Starkey, Tammy (Jeff) Whiskin, Haylee Roncaglione, Jennifer Cevigney, and Louis (Amy) Cevigney, 9 great grandchildren: Amber, Isaiah, Tyler, Amanda, August, Hope, Michael, Chloe and Robert, a sister, Dolores (Lowell) Steimle of Jean, NV, a brother Walter "Butch" (Alice) Wiljanen of Michigamme,a half sister Judy (David) Anderson of Ishpeming, brother in laws Gert (Irene) Cevigney and Fran Wallace along with numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Peter Louis Cevigney and an infant sister Darlene.
Family and friends will gather for prayer at 4:00pm on Monday, March 7, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion. The family will greet relatives and friends from 3:00-4:00pm on Monday at the church. Inurnment will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care given to Sylvia.
