Republic, MI- Suzie I. Light, age 66, longtime Republic resident, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday June 14, 2025 at her home.

Suzie was born in her families home in Minburn, IA on March 6, 1959. She grew up in the Minburn area and was a graduate of Central Dallas High School with the class of 1977. She was united in marriage to Larry Belgarde in 1977, and together they raised 3 children, Brad, Emily, and Darin. Suzie was a dedicated mother in raising her kids. In 2007 she relocated to Republic, MI with her life partner Jon Onkalo. While living in Republic, she worked for Northern Specialty Company for many years.

Suzie had a love for the outdoors, and could often be found gardening, planting flowers, woodworking, or going for rides with Jon through the trails and backroads of the woods. She will be remembered for her artistic nature, as well as her competitive nature, and her love for her sports, especially the Lions, Steelers, Cubs, and Tigers.

Suzie is survived by her life partner- Jon Onkalo, 3 children- Brad (Brandy) Belgarde, Emily (Matthew) Belgarde, Darin (Tanya) Belgarde, sister- Marlene (Roy) Wicks, 3 grandchildren- Elana, Grady, Bailee, and one great granddaughter to be who is expected this fall. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 4 siblings- Bernetta, Dale, Johnny, and Ruth.

Following Suzie's wishes, cremation will take place with a private celebration of her life to be held at a later date.
