Ishpeming- Steven Lawrence Pietro, lifetime Ishpeming resident went to be with the Angels on October 22, 2020 under the care of MCMCF and Hospice.
Steve was born to Agnes (Longtine) and Lawrence (Speed) Pietro December 20, 1938. Steve Graduated from Ishpeming High school class of 1956. Steve promptly joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and was extremely proud of his time in the Navy as a Seabee. Returning home on leave, he married his high school sweetheart Karen Forsberg on December 27, 1958 and remained by her side right to the end. Following his time from the service Steve attended Northern Michigan University and earned a BA in business. Steve took a teaching job in Stephenson for a couple of years before returning to Ishpeming to raise his family. Steve then took a job as an accountant for CCI for many years until "The best job ever" - Retirement.
Steve and Karen remodeled their camp on the dead river into their home leaving the suburbs of the Eight Edition behind them. During the winter months they traded the UP white snow for the white sand beach of Destin, Fl.
Steve was also a lifelong member of the Ishpeming Elks Club serving as an exalted ruler in his younger days. He took great pride in collecting and filling the coin cartons for the Elks.
Steve is survived by his wife of 61 years Karen Pietro, his daughters Pamela (Steve) Dodge, Kristine (Bill) Arseneau. His beloved grandchildren Karl (Kim) Hendrix, Dylan (Sara) Hendrix, Johannah (Codey) Pennala, Jacob (Maddy) Dodge, Alex (Kristin) Arseneau, Noah Arseneau, Dallas Kecker, Lyric Kecker. Great grandchildren Desmond Hendrix, Alayna Kecker, Eve Pennala, Dominic and Jaimie Dodge and he was waiting for Arlo to be born this coming January. His Brother David 'Bomber' Pietro and his nieces Ashley (Kyle) Maki and Lacey Pietro. He was preceded in death by his daughter Stephanie, his parents and sister-in-law Vickie (Martin) Pietro. Also, his furry sons – Swede and Mike!
The family wishes to thank everyone who has been involved with Steve and Karen during these very trying times. Special thanks to the MCMCF! The family will hold a memorial service in the spring while a gentle breeze crosses the dead and the camp is bathed in the sunshine of a new beginning, rest in peace Steve – Job well Done.
