Negaunee - Steven Giuchin, age 81, of 1207 Opechee St. Negaunee, passed away Tuesday morning, July 13, 2021, under the loving care of his family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Steve was born in Detroit, on April 15, 1940, a son of the late Martha M. (McCallister) and Stephan Giuchin. Steve grew up in Detroit and entered the U.S. Navy at age 17, serving from 1957 – 1961. While in the Navy he was able to travel the world. Steve worked for Northern Natural Gas Co. for 34 years, retiring as Operations Supervisor in 2000.
Steve was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, the Ishpeming VFW where he was a past commander, and had also been previously a member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge and the AmVets. Steve had enjoyed the Ishpeming Cribbage League, and local Bowling Leagues. He had a passion for planting various flower gardens and painting. Steve loved spending time with his wife, especially at noon for the Young and the Restless.
Survivors include his wife Elaine Giuchin of Negaunee whom he married on April 4, 1964; daughter, Julie (Richard Strand) Giuchin of Ely Twp; son, Glenn (Laura) Giuchin of Negaunee; two sisters, Barbara Leatherwood of Manhattan, IL; Shirley Miller of Grosse Point Park, MI; 9 grandchildren - David Rettig, Aaron Hauser, Justin Hauser, Alonso Giuchin, Argelis Giuchin, Dylan Giuchin, Daren Giuchin, Blake Baehr, Bryce Baehr; 3 great grandchildren - Aiden Giuchin, Ellery Giuchin, Apollo Giuchin, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a special friend Bob Hombirg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Giuchin-Mills in 2019.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00AM to 12:00PM on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00PM on Friday, with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
