Obituary

Ishpeming- Stephen P. “Yutch” Nault, age 73, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Thursday September 10, 2026 at his home surrounded by the love of his wife, daughters, granddaughter Allie, and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Steve was born in Marquette on June 14, 1953, son of the late Edmund and Ruth (Schjonberg) Nault. He grew up in the Ishpeming area and was a graduate of Ishpeming High School, class of 1971. Following graduation Steve served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1975. Steve then returned home to Ishpeming where he worked for UPPCO for 35 years until his retirement in 2010. Steve married Debbie Giotto on October 10, 1987 and shared 38 years of marriage.

Steve loved spending his summers at camp on the Dead River Basin, mountain biking, golfing at Wawonowin Country Club, downhill skiing, hunting, fishing, spending time with his brother Pete, going for rides in the woods on color and waterfall tours with his wife Debbie. Steve was an avid cribbage player, playing almost nightly with Debbie where they kept a yearly scorecard to see who ended up winning the most games throughout the year.

Steve is survived by his wife: Debbie (Giotto) Nault, 5 daughters: Stephanie Nault, Stacey (Craig) Niemi, Kaylee (Eric) Major, Jenna Nault, Emily (Tony) Walker, 2 brothers: Pete (Ann) Nault, Joe (Jennifer) Nault, 2 brothers-in-law: Ray Kauppila, Michael (Angie) Giotto, 9 grandchildren: Makayla, Anna, Taylor, Noah, Faith, Allie, Benny, Nora, Annie, 5 great grandchildren: Carson, Evan, Kolson, Lyla, Callahan, his beloved dog: Pearl, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Vanda Kauppila, mother-in-law and father-in-law: Carole and Richie Giotto, and nephew: Andy Nault.

Steve’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Wednesday September 16, 2026. A memorial service with military honors will follow at 1:00pm with Rev. Daniel Ondov officiating.

Steve’s family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Acharya, Danielle, Lexi, along with all the wonderful nurses in the oncology unit, and a Special thank you to Dr. Odom and Morgan for their excellent care and compassion.
