Stella T. (Frustaglio) Poirier
Ishpeming - Stella T. Poirier, age 92, of 434 Washington Street, Ishpeming passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 while in the loving care of family. Stella had been a resident of the Mather Nursing Facility since January, 2009.
Stella was born in Ishpeming on January 22, 1918, the daughter of Pietro and Rose (Umbrello) Frustaglio. She was employed by the H. W. Gossard Co. for over 30 years, retiring in 1977. Stella married Edelore Poirier on May 21, 1977. They exemplified great love and respect for each other. Throughout her married life, Stella and Edelore shared several trips together including Alaska, Hawaii, Nashville, Salt Lake City and Branson, MO. Locally, their greatest enjoyment was spending time at their camp south of Ishpeming. From spring until late fall they spent the majority of their weekends at camp. While at camp, they gathered firewood, picked berries, and mushrooms and took many rides to look for wildlife. Many great meals were cooked and enjoyed at camp by family and friends. Stella was an avid bowler, bowling in league play until she was 80 years old, retiring due to back problems.
Stella was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Stella's faith was very important to her. Even when her health was failing, she faithfully said the Rosary and watched daily Mass on EWTN.
Stella is survived by her husband Edelore, two sisters, Theresa (Edwin) Carlson, Concetta (Eino) Maki, one brother, Vito (Marion) Frustaglio, a nephew, she helped raise, Michael (Paula) Frustaglio and their two sons, Bradley (Kymberly) and Brian Frustaglio; step-sons, William (Signe) Poirier, Phillip (Diane) Poirier and step-daughter-in-law, Elaine Poirier along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many step-grandchildren. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters - Catherine Sarras and Mary George - four brothers, Phillip, Dominic, Peter, Anthony and a step-son, Joseph Poirier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday February 22, 2010 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Friends may call at the St. John's Catholic Church from 9:30 – 11:00am on Monday. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Frustaglio, Philip Frustaglio, Mark Frustaglio, John George, Daniel Carlson, Mark Poirier.
