Ishpeming – Stefania K. Rost, age 94, longtime Laurium resident passed away on Wednesday February 23, 2011 at 10:58am. She had resided at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming since July of 2009.


Stefania was born Jan. 13, 1917 in Osceola Twp., MI, the daughter of the late Steve and Sylvia (Chopp) Jackovac. She grew up in Kearsarge location, graduating from the Calumet High School, Class of 1936. Stefania married Frank R. Rost on August 8, 1945 in Detroit. They resided in Laurium for most of there adult life, with Stefania being a loving homemaker, always at home in her kitchen, baking and cooking. She enjoyed gardening around her home during the summer months. She was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Calumet. Stefania has resided with her daughter in Ishpeming since 2001.


Survivors include a daughter Sharon Nelson of Ishpeming, 2 sisters – Dorothy Jarvi of Calumet and Lucille Stimac of Scottsdale, AZ, a brother Jerome Jackovac of Laurium, 2 grandchildren – Tracey (Paula Sanchez) Enrietti and Brian Enrietti, 3 great grandchildren – Toni, Stephanie and Devin, and 2 great-great grandchildren Marissa and Jayla, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Rost July 4, 1994, and 3 sisters – Ann Pavletich, Katherine Hentz, and Mary Malnar.


A graveside inurnment service will be held in the spring at the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet.
