Obituary

Ishpeming- Stanley M. Moilanen, age 71 of 10 Co. Rd. CH Ishpeming, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Berry AFC in Germfask, where he had been a resident since February 2014.

Stanley was born February 8, 1943 in Laurium, MI to Alfred & Mayme (Skufca) Moilanen. He graduated from Calumet High School, Class of 1961. Stan served in the US Army during the Cuban Crisis. He worked in the gold mines in Nevada and for Hough Manufacturing in Northern Illinois before settling in Ishpeming where he worked 25 years for Cleveland Cliffs; retiring in 1997 as a mechanic from the Empire Mine.

Stan was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, Westwood Patriots and Ishpeming Hematites. His favorite sport was NASCAR and he traveled to numerous races around the country with his best buddy Cal and attended many local stock car races as well. He was a proud Grandpa and loved spending time with his family and friends; including weekly gatherings at Perky's and traveling to Nevada with the trailer during the winter months to spend time with his family there. Attending swap meets while in Las Vegas was something Stan really enjoyed.

Stan is survived by his wife of 17 years, Virginia (Jacobson), 3 children: Kris Moilanen of Escanaba, Kim (Jim) Holman of Henderson, NV and Darrell Moilanen of Las Vegas, NV. 4 step children: Kurt Millimaki, Kevin (Maria) Millimaki, Keith (Tammy) Millimaki all of Ishpeming and Lisa (Terry) Treece of South Mills, NC. 9 grandchildren: Justin (Talitha) Holman, Kayla & Jordan Holman, Tyler & Sara Moilanen, Philip, Aubrey, Tyrus and Hannah Millimaki. A Great Grandson: Hunter Holman, an aunt and numerous cousins. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mayme Moilanen.

Funeral services for Stan will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Twp, with Pastor DJ Thomsen officiating.

Stan's family will greet relatives and friends on Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church from 12:30pm until the time of service at 2:00pm.

Stan's family would like to thank Adeline & Louie Berry for the wonderful care given to Stan.
