Ishpeming – Sigrid I. Simula, age 83, formerly of 850 N. Pine St. Ishpeming passed away on Tuesday February 9, 2010 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.


Sigrid was born August 19, 1926 in Republic the daughter of the late Isaac and Hilda (Korpi) Valima. She was a graduate of the Republic High School, Class of 1944. Sigrid moved to Detroit in 1944 living there for a year prior to returning to this area. Sigrid had worked at the H.W. Gossard Co., Bell Hospital and Montgomery Wards, but spent most of her time as a homemaker. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. Sigrid enjoyed sewing things for others, playing BINGO and cards, along with family fishing outings.


Survivors include a son – Terry (Janet) Simula of Marquette, a daughter Tina (Donald) Weiland of Marquette, 2 nieces and 4 nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Simula (2007), a brother Alpo Walimaa, a sister Aili Ollila along with two infant sisters.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 3:00 until 4:00pm on Friday February 12, 2010 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 4:00pm on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens in Negaunee Twp.
