Negaunee- Signe D. Carter, age 99, longtime area resident, passed away Tuesday June 19, 2018 at the Eastwood Nursing Center while in the loving care of her family and the Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Signe was born in Negaunee on March 4, 1919 to the late Samuel and Lena (Helmsdorfer) Kivisto. She worked as a LPN at Bell Memorial Hospital for 25 years, and was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. Signe enjoyed gardening, reading, and traveling in her free time.

Signe is survived by her two daughters- Louise (David) Watson of Las Vegas, NV, Delight (Patrick) Spooner of Morenci, MI, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews including a special niece Coleen Waters and great niece Rebecca Korpi. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Herbert R. Carter, son- Peter H. Carter, grandson- Aaron J. Sarvello, and her three brothers.

Private graveside services will be held for Signe later this summer. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
