Negaunee - Signe "Lorraine" Anderson passed on to Heaven at home on April 10, 2012 under the loving care of her daughter, Susan. Lorraine was born on April 6, 1931 in Ishpeming to Leonard and Impi (Patana) Saari. She was a graduate of Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She taught at several area schools, but her work love was waitressing. Lorraine's employment included numerous local restaurants, including Auntie's, the Bon Ton, 41 Club, Holiday Inn, The Crow's Nest, Brass Check and The Tiroler Hoff.
Lorraine enjoyed music and dancing. She loved traveling and shopping with her daughters and the evening coffee tradition with her sisters who lived in homes on each side of her at Teal Lake Estates.
Lorraine's proudest accomplishments in her life were her children and her home. She was the wonderful mother of 10 children, and an immaculate housekeeper. She was a fabulous baker and cook, and was well known for her wonderful pies which she sold to the Dairy Mart in Ishpeming when her children were very young.
Survivors include her daughters, Susan (William) Wooden, Jeanne (Scott) Harsila, step daughter Julie Swenor, son's James (Evelyn) Henson, Glen (Ginger) Henson, Kenneth (Patricia) Henson, Dennis (Tina) Henson, Donald (Julie) Nyman, and Brandon (Cristina) Anderson, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, her sister's Shirley Kallatsa, Ethel (Robert) Dobson and her brother, Reynold (Rita) Saari.
Lorraine was welcomed into heaven by her parents, husband Julius Anderson, two children Keith Henson and Tanya Anderson, two grandchildren Donald and Katrina, and two great grandchildren Jacob and Katie.
The family gives a special thank you to U.P. Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Michael Grossman for their loving help and care.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 5PM, with a service at 6PM in the Bethel Lutheran Church at 333 E. Ridge Street, Ishpeming with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Lorraine will be buried at the Ishpeming Cemetery next to Tanya and Keith.
