Obituary
Ishpeming – Sidney "Sid" Phare, age 78, of 2007 Deer Lake Ave., Ishpeming passed away on Wednesday March 31, 2010 in the Emergency Room at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming following an apparent heart attack at his home.
Sid was born August 16, 1931 in Ishpeming the son of the late Sidney and Emily (Dunstan) Phare. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1949. Sid worked first for the Ishpeming Public Schools for 17 years in the maintenance dept. and then moved on to Frailing Electric, working another 17 years as an electrician, retiring in 1991. Although retired, Sid never quit working, and will be remembered as a "Jack of all trades." He was a longstanding member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and its brotherhood, where he could often be found helping out. He loved doing any type of construction especially when it involved heavy equipment. He enjoyed time spent watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years E. Patricia (DeRoche) Phare of Ishpeming, 3 daughters – Nancy (Thomas) Polkinghorne of Champion, Susan (John) Boback of Ishpeming, and Judi Phare of Ishpeming, 2 sisters – Gladys Sorensen and Emily Nelson both of Marquette, sisters-in-law – Mary (Ray) Heinzman of Ishpeming, Kathleen Eckermann of Syracuse, NY, and Janet DeRoche of Ft. Wayne, IN, 5 grandchildren – Steven (Elizabeth) Polkinghorne, Emily (fiancé John Mattox) Polkinghorne, Rev. Daniel (Deborah) Sorensen, Jan (Jeremy) Levi, and Katie (Mike Lee) Sorensen, 6 great grandchildren – Max, Corin, Ilia, Jonah, Kieren and Jaina, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers – Charles and William Phare and a sister May Penrose.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Tuesday April 6, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ken Lahners to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
