Ishpeming- Shirley E. Sundberg, age 78 formerly of 106 High Excelsior St. Ishpeming, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Mather Nursing Center with her family at her side.

Shirley was born August 5, 1929 in Republic to William & Elizabeth (Augston) Tapio. She graduated from Republic High School in 1947 and while in school she participated as a cheerleader. Shirley attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming.

Shirley enjoyed outdoor activities in her younger years, such as: skiing, fishing and hunting and later in life enjoyed sewing, and embroidering, she also was an excellent baker. Shirley had the enjoyment of raising 6 children and she loved her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by 6 children: Arthur (Ann) Bennon of Ishpeming, William (Vickie) Bennon of Diorite, Rosemarie Sundberg of Ishpeming, Greg P. (Elizabeth) Sundberg of Ishpeming, Diane Sundberg of Marquette and Cheryl Sundberg of Ishpeming, a brother Robert Tapio of Republic, brother in laws Leo (Charlotte) Sundberg and Roger (Mary) Sundberg both of Ishpeming and a sister in law Lorriane (Clifford ) Mercier of Michigamme along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul E Sundberg, a brother James Tapio and sister in law Margaret Tapio.

Private funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Fr James Challancin officiating.
