Ishpeming – Shirley I. Salo, age 89, lifelong Ishpeming resident passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided since this past July.

Shirley was born June 21, 1929 in Hastings, MN the daughter of the late Adolph and Martha (Lummukka) Ollila and moved to Ishpeming with her family early in her childhood.  She married Raymond Salo on April 8, 1950 in Ishpeming, MI. Shirley had worked for the H.W. Gossard Co. in Ishpeming for 22 years as a seamstress. She was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church. Shirley enjoyed sewing, playing scrabble and her many cats and dogs she had throughout her lifetime.

Survivors include her brother Richard (Margaret) Ollila of Ishpeming, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a host of brothers and sisters in faith. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Salo in 2003, infant sister Delores Ollila, sister Bernice Yoki, brother Adolph Ollila and nephew Bryan Ollila.

Shirley's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 11:00am on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Co Rd 492, Negaunee, MI.  Funeral Services will follow at 11:00am on Monday with Dan Hintsala to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
