Ishpeming- Shirley M. Peterson, age 89, longtime area resident, passed away on Tuesday November 23, 2021 at UP Health System Marquette, while in the loving care of her family and hospital staff.

Shirley was born on May 6 ^th , 1932 to Thomas Wilfred Tippett and Mina (Cameron) Tippett in Ishpeming, Michigan.   She was a graduate of Ishpeming High School and the Ravenswood School of Nursing.   She worked for many years as a registered nurse.   She began her career at Bell Memorial Hospital, and later on worked at the Williams Clinic in Ishpeming.   Later, Shirley worked as an industrial nurse, employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company at both the Mather B and Tilden mines.  After moving away for several years, she returned to the area and finished her career as a rehabilitation nurse with Crawford Health and Rehabilitation Services.

Shirley enjoyed the companionship of friends, and cherished the time she spent with her family.   She was an avid card player, who was always looking for an opportunity to play cribbage.   She also enjoyed just being with her dogs.

She was a member of both St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Catholic Churches.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Kathie (Michael) Eliason, sons Michael (Laura) Peterson and Christopher (Anna) Peterson, grandchildren Heath (Teresa) Eliason, Hayley (Matt) Pap, Ryan Peterson, and Bryce Peterson, and great grandchildren Claire, Quinn, and Grace Eliason and Emma, Leah, and Will Pap.   She was preceded in death by her parents.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic a private burial service will take place followed by a private Memorial Mass in celebration of Shirley's life.
