Ishpeming Twp- Shirley Lorraine Honkavaara, age 87 of 205 Seilo Ave Ishpeming, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at her home while in the loving care of her family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Lorraine was born July 22, 1928 in Ishpeming to Rudolph & Aileen (Manninen-Evensen) Mackey. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1946. Lorraine worked as a medical secretary for over 30 years, most of those years working at Dr. Williams's clinic.

Lorraine was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where she had served as the Children's' Choir Director. She was an avid gardener, always looking forward to the spring time of the year. Lorraine was a talented carpet weaver, knitter and sewer, as she made many of the clothes her children wore. She was also an exceptional cookie baker, made wonderful pasties and pies. Lorraine was also involved with the parents club of the Blue Notes and a former Girl Scout Leader.

Lorraine is survived by 4 children: Jean (Robert) Wheeler of Dayton, OH, Katherine (Thomas) Norberg of New Lenox, IL, Lorie Arcand of Negaunee and John (Lynn) Honkavaara of Parkersburg, WV, 5 grandchildren: Rob (Mindy) Wheeler, Andrew (Kristen) Wheeler, Lauren (T.J.) Spradlin, Marja (fiancé Patrick Cullen) Norberg and Jackie (Robbie) May, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Honkavaara, sister and brother-in-law June and Donald Salli, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Julanne and Henry Isabelle and son-in-law Reyn Arcand.

Lorraine's family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday April 19, 2016 from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Bethel Lutheran Church where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.

A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
