Ishpeming, MI- Shirley A. DeLongchamp, age 83 of 1296 Co. Rd. 496 SE Ishpeming (Ely Twp) passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of the MCMCF staff, her family and UP Home Health & Hospice. Shirley was born April 21, 1929 in Diorite, MI to Stephen & Leona (Larmour) Junak. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1947. Shirley married Roy "Putsy" DeLongchamp in 1948, sharing 57 years of marriage. Shirley enjoyed her roles as wife, mother and homemaker. She was an accomplished cook, baker, avid reader, remarkable Scrabble player and enjoyed her flowers and gardening. After Shirley's children were grown, she established a career as a freelance writer. She had many articles published in the Milwaukee Journal, Detroit Free Press, Green Bay Press Gazette, Michigan Living and the Readers Digest among others. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Japan. A favorite pastime for Shirley and Roy was to explore the UP by taking frequent day trips and stopping for lunch at their favorite restaurants. Extended adventures included visiting their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren across the country. Her family meant the world to her. Shirley is survived by her 7 children: Robert (Gerry) DeLongchamp of Pine Bluff, AR, Susan Danielson of Denver, CO, Anne (Robert) Pecotte of Marquette, Stephen (Heidi) DeLongchamp of Ishpeming, Mary "Tinker" (Howard) Robare of Negaunee, Barbara (Barry) Dale of Ishpeming and Cathy (John) Hoffman of Washburn, WI; 2 sisters: Sister Jean Junak CSJ of Ishpeming and Nancy Cope of Ishpeming, 2 brothers: Stephen (Rosemary) Junak of Ishpeming and James (Jean) Junak of Ishpeming; 20 grandchildren: Travis DeLongchamp, Troy (Amy) Williams, Tracey (Mark) Williams, Angela (Jay) Anglin, Richard Smith, Jay (Norma) Pecotte, Bobbie Sue (Jesse) Ross, Erik DeLongchamp, Isaac (Nicole Morack) DeLongchamp, Maija (Steve) Veihl and Sara DeLongchamp, Amy, Andrew, and Mary Rose Robare and Bridget (Jacob) Johnson, Kristen and Samantha Pellonpaa and Kristin and Kara Dale, and John Hoffman; 13 great grandchildren: Trey, Ian, and Austin Williams, Lauren, Mitchell, Richard John "RJ", Elizabeth and Susan Anglin, Aspen Smith, Savanna and Pearce Ross, Jennifer DeLongchamp and Anaximander "Manny" Johnson; 3 brothers-in-law: Charles (Marilyn) DeLongchamp of Ishpeming, Michael (Connie) Cope of Wisconsin and Robert (Angela) Cope of Australia, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Leona Junak, husband, Roy DeLongchamp and a sister, Sister Rosemary Junak CSJ. Shirley was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Shirley's life will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, March 25, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Fr. William Ssozi officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 10:00am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
