ISHPEMING, MI – Sherry Lynn Solka, age 69, of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the comforting care of her family and nursing home staff.
Sherry was born in Ishpeming, MI, on July 22, 1956, the daughter of James and Beverly (Duhame) Solka, and was raised in National Mine. She attended National Mine grade school and high school, where she was known for being a quiet child. Later in life, Sherry returned to school and proudly earned her GED.
As a teenager, Sherry met her husband, Shamon Hebert, and they were later married in the early 1970’s. They made their first home in Ishpeming and began raising their family together. Life took them on many journeys, including moves to South Milwaukee, Washington, the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and finally back to the Upper Peninsula in the late 1980’s. Over time Sherry and Shamon grew apart and separated.
In 2000, at the horse pulls in Champion, she met David Delongchamp. What began as a long conversation turned into something much more—after running into each other again and picking up right where they left off, they continued talking and strengthening their bond. Sherry later moved to Wisconsin—officially to be closer to family, though some might say it was to be closer to David. The two remained devoted partners for 25 years and returned to the Upper Peninsula together in 2010.
Throughout her travels, Sherry discovered a passion for flowers and became a florist, a role that perfectly reflected her nurturing spirit and creativity. She spent most of her career at Teddy’s Flower Shop. Sherry had a true green thumb and found joy in gardening, bringing beauty to everything she touched.
She loved spending winters in Arizona with David, as well as enjoying trips to casinos, playing bingo, thrifting, and browsing garage sales. Though not widely known, she also had a remarkable talent for art—which she got from her mother. Above all, she was a giving and caring person. She was deeply concerned for those around her, always wanting to make sure they were okay.
Sherry is survived by her loving partner of 25 years, David Delongchamp; her children, Stephen (Amy Demarest) Hebert, Shane (Christy Antilla) Hebert, and Sherrell (Clay) Koski; her brother, Allen (Kathy) Solka; her grandchildren, Derrick, Alex, Shay, Megan, Aden, and Kyla; and her great-grandchildren, Mason and Maya.
She was preceded in death by her son, Shamon Paul; her parents, James Solka and Beverly Ombrello; and stepfather, Peter Ombrello.
Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Marquette County Medical Care Facility, especially those on the 400 wing, and to Jackie and Miranda for their exceptional care and kindness.
A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Tuesday May 19, 2026. Visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Pastor Mike Carriere will officiate.
