Ishpeming – Sheila M. Blixt, age 42, of 214 Bussone Dr., Ishpeming passed away on Friday April 17, 2015 at UP Health System Marquette with her husband by her side.

Sheila was born March 26, 1973 in Munising, MI, the daughter of Thomas J. and Elizabeth J. (Heyrman) Mahalic. She spent her early childhood in Munising, then moved with her family to Marquette during her middle school years. She was a graduate of the Marquette Senior High School, Class of 1991. Sheila attended Northern Michigan University for a couple of years prior to her marriage to Tony Blixt on August 7, 1993. In 1996 they moved downstate, with Sheila working for the Ford Motor Co. as a manufacturing tech in Sterling Heights, MI. They returned to the Upper Peninsula in 2008 with Sheila working in the housekeeping dept. at MGH for several years and for the past year had worked as a nurses aid at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming.

Sheila was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed living out on the Dead River and activities such as boating and fishing, blueberry picking and walks with her dogs. Sheila loved sports, and had been active in adult soccer while living downstate. She enjoyed watching and supporting the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include her husband Tony Blixt of Ishpeming; father Thomas Mahalic of Marquette; 3 brothers – John (Candia) Mahalic of Harvey, Todd (Allison) Mahalic of Lowell, and Mark Mahalic of Louisville, KY; her in-laws – Bud and Janie Blixt of Ishpeming; brothers-in-law – Scott (Rochell) Blixt of Ishpeming, Steve (Mollie) Blixt of Howell and Ryan (Megan) Blixt of Harvey; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Betty Mahalic.

The family will greet family and friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 1:00pm on Tuesday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate.
