Negaunee – Sharon M. Hanson, 79, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at Unity Hospice in De Pere, Wisconsin, surrounded by the love of her family and caregivers.
Born on March 16, 1947, in Escanaba, Michigan, Sharon was the daughter of Stanley LeMay and Shirley (Moreau) Shafer. After graduating from high school, she moved to Marquette to attend school, where she met the love of her life, Chauncey Hanson. Together they made their home in Ishpeming and raised their family.
Sharon worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Willey’s Tire Shop and was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming.
Sharon enjoyed bowling with friends, antiquing, crafting, and tackling any project that came her way. Whether it was sewing, tiling, upholstery, or home improvement, she could do it all. She looked forward to the monthly lunches with her friends of more than 50 years and cherished their friendship. She loved taking drives in her convertible BMW with Rod Stewart playing and the top down, but her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters.
She is survived by her son, Joe Hanson; daughter, Milissa (Rob) Bergman; granddaughters, Lyndsey (Austin) Delsi and Hailey Bergman; brother, Stanley LeMay; and many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chauncey Hanson; her partner, Dale “Boone” Benson; her sister, Judy Talvitie; and her sister-in-law, Sharon Curtin.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating. Interment will follow at Ishpeming Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Unity Hospice, 2366 Oak Ridge Circle, De Pere, WI 54115, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family would like to thank the staff of Unity Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
