Milwaukee, WI – Scott A. "Etta" LaPointe, age 47, longtime Ishpeming resident currently of Milwaukee, WI passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI following a bicycle accident in which he was fatally injured.
Scott was born April 22, 1969 in Ishpeming, MI the son of Larry and Janice (Wiig) LaPointe. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1987. While in High School he excelled in wrestling, having been a 4 year varsity letter winner and a UP Champion as a freshmen. Scott went on to serve in the United States Air Force for four years from Oct. of 1988 thru Oct. of 1992 in support of Desert Shield / Desert Storm. Scott returned to the Upper Peninsula following his service time, and worked at the Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette. Scott was currently employed at The Knickerbocker on the Lake Hotel in Milwaukee, where he had resided for the past 5 years.
Scott was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at the family hunting camp in Sidnaw, along with kayaking and biking. While in Milwaukee he explored new interests including horseback riding, hiking, attending festivals and enjoyed time spent with his new veteran friends.
Survivors include his parents Larry and Janice LaPointe of Ishpeming, 2 children – Brittany LaPointe of Ishpeming and Tyler LaPointe of Humboldt, sister Sherry Steele of Ishpeming, grandson Xander LaPointe, nephew Devin Steele, aunts and uncles – Sharon & Peter Dishnow, Joyce & David Savolainen and Jonelle & Kim Neumann, numerous cousins including special cousin Diane Savolainen, and Veteran Brother, Jose Garza of Milwaukee.
He was preceded in death by a son Derrek Jon LaPointe on April 11, 1997, uncle Myles LaPointe, the love of his life Michelle Baker, and his hunting buddy Tommy Miilu.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
