Obituary

Marquette- Sara Kay (Fowler) Laitala, age 79, a Marquette resident, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at her daughter's home while in the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice following a brief illness.

Sara was born in Marquette, Michigan on June 6, 1942, a daughter of the late Millard R. and Lydia J. (Lehtinen) Fowler.  She graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1960. After raising her family, she attended Northern Michigan University.

Sara worked for Dr. Peter Mestnik as his office manager for many years. After retiring from Dr. Mestnik, Sara went on to obtain her real estate license and worked for Century 21.

Sara enjoyed life to the fullest. She was an avid reader, loved playing Bridge, both Party and Duplicate, always up for a good time. Sara enjoyed her special friends with whom she participated in many different, fun activities; she was always on the go! Sara had so many friends that she cherished and will miss her. Her Wednesday nights were dedicated to dinner and fun conversation with her sisters, Jane and Sandy. Sara's family was precious to her, she was so proud of them all.

Sara is survived by a daughter, Carrie (Randolph) Osstyn, of Marquette; two sisters: Sandra Latzer (John Decaire) of Champion, and Jane (Michael) Mariuzza of Ishpeming, two grandchildren: Heather Vizena (Christopher Davis) of Estero, FL, and Meghan Price of Negaunee, three great grandchildren: Logan, Cullen, and Eliana, along with several nieces and nephews, and her fur companion "Snuffles".

Sara was preceded in death by her parents and son William "Billy" Wood.

Sara's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Redeemer Lutheran Church 1700 W. Fair Ave. Marquette where her funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon with Pastor Chad Ott officiating.

Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Decaire, Michael Peter, Michael Jeffrey, Michael Jon, Tony and Mason, Mariuzza.

Memorial considerations may be directed to Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice, or UPAWS in memory of Sara.
