Negaunee- Sandra Jean Smith, age 75, longtime Gladstone resident, and most recently of Negaunee, passed away on Sunday March 24, 2024 at the Eastwood Nursing Center while in the loving care of her son, and nursing home staff.
Sandra was born in Port Huron, MI on June 6, 1948, daughter of the late Harold and Phyllis (Dandron) Knisley. She grew up in the Port Huron, and Walled Lake area, and she graduated from Walled Lake Central High School with the class of 1967. Sandra married her husband Peter Smith on December 6, 1969, she and Peter shared an amazing love, and enjoyed travelling, and adventuring together flying to their homes in Kentucky, Florida, and between their several properties within Michigan.
Sandra was a member of the Red Hats, she enjoyed sewing, was known for her cooking, especially her famous baked beans which she never gave up the recipe to. She was affectionately known to her family as "Sandals", which stemmed from her always going barefoot or only wearing sandals.
Sandra is survived by her 2 children- Katina Smith, John Smith, sisters-in-law- Patty Smith and Denise McCall, brother-in-law- Stevie (Sue) Smith, 2 grandchildren- Tobie and Griffin, nephew- Stephen Smith, and good friend- Betsy Lietz. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Peter Smith, sister- Diane, father and mother-in-law- Earl and Patricia Smith, and brother-in-law- Chuck McCall.
Following Sandra's wishes, cremation will take place with a private family gathering to be held at a later date.
Sandra's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at both the Eastwood Nursing Center, and UP Health System Marquette for the wonderful care they gave to Sandra.
